Newmarket 5 - 57 Sudbury

In the absence of our own match report, I thought you might be interested in the one that Sudbury posted on their website, which I have reproduced below. Apart from confirming the final score, please see the phrase I have highlighted in bold.

"Sudbury travelling to sunny Newmarket, set out their stall early and were startled initially by the effectiveness of a large Newmarket pack. However once the initial barrage had been dealt with, they dominated once more the loose and contact areas. Excellent endeavour and speed to the breakdown didn't allow Newmarket to play their game and Sudbury settled into their rhythm imposing themselves and generally being a nuisance to the home team.

Scores were added at regular intervals as the Sudbury's backs were let loose from the steadily increasing quality ball that the forwards were producing. Combined with an effective defence and patience the ball was lost often by Newmarket when they took it into contact and thus a strong home pack were annulled as Sudbury always looked in control. Newmarket however continued to make a fist of it and scored a well taken try late into the second half to register that they were there to play and their heads never went down.

Despite the score line - which was not reflective of Newmarket's play - this was a good test for Sudbury as was anticipated. They now go into Sunday's Suffolk Cup Final against Colchester in fine shape."
